Just yesterday, while perusing the glory that is Marshall's, I spotted one of those glass water bottles with the cu that fits over the top. What do you call those things?* You know, they have them sitting on the bedside tables in bed and breakfasts. Anyway, it was beautiful. And we are huge fans of having glasses of water when we wake throughout the night. But being the unstylish people we are, we fill up a worn out blue plastic cup that we bought at Big Lots type store when we were first married. It's ugly, but it doesn't break when the cat knocks it down.
So, here is my dilemma. I want beautiful stylish things but I struggle with the practicality of it all. I don't want to get something just to have it broken. And I also don't want to "waste" money on things just because they are gorgeous yet serve no purpose.
I guess I'll stick to the occasional treat for myself and make sure that when I do buy something out of necessity, it will be the most stylish option I can find.
And how the heck does Dooce have enough space to keep showing us a new stylish thing every day? Her house must be huge!

I am so with you. I have one of those pitcher/cup deals your talking about and seriously never use it because exactly like you've said, the stupid cat knocks it down every night. So, my nightstand cup is a plastic ugly thing that i got free from a golf outing thing at work. I so hear you and feel for you!
I've wanted one of those for a long time too. I just keep a bottle of Aquafina handy.
