Hot Mama Revolution: Taking The Leap

What is a pretty picture without a pretty frame? A wee bit naked and somewhat floppy, I would say. And we don't want to go around looking all naked and floppy, do we now girls?

Hair is the frame to our faces. What does your hair say about your face? What does your 'do' do for your face? Up until a week or so ago my hair had this to say about my face: "Hi! I'm Sarah's hair, but I don't like to admit it. I am embarrassed about being so overgrown and having no style. So I hide in a wet bun, straight out of the shower, so no one can see me and shout things like, 'Dear Lord, why is there a dirty, matted, dead prarie dog on top of Sarah's head??' "

Feeling bad for my clearly neglected and sad sad sad hair, I changed what had been a pedicure appointment into a cut. And I couldn't be happier. I had pictures but in a rush to clear space on the ol' digi', I accidentally cleared them and now we have lovely pictures of my boys doing Kung-Fu moves.

But other people in the bloggy world have recently taken the leap and their pictures live on to tell the tale. Take a look at BooMama and Adventures in Babywearing. See! Mamas can have hot little do's too!

A few tips for getting a Mama friendly cut:

  • Go to a younger stylist who is more likely to know what is hot right now, than say....Gertrude who did your Grandma's hair since she was your age and tends to say things like "I love Dolly Parton!" or "You really should frost those tips!"
  • Go short! Susan at Friday Playdate has the cutest pixie cut in the world. You don't have to go that short, but just keep in mind that shorter hair means less to wash, blowdry, style and spread all kinds of fun "Spritzy, Shiny, Proteiny, Enahncing" this and that product on!
  • This question is near and dear to my heart: "Will my hair look halfway decent if I don't have the time to blowdry it while using a roudbrush and massaging my scalp with my left foot?" The less work the better, gals! I've had many a short cut which required hours of prep or else I would end up looking like some kind of punk teenage boy.

So, ladies, got any tips, ideas, or progress to share from your own Hot Mama Revolution?

What a great idea! Awesome tips, too. I say "JUST GO FOR IT!" Be daring- it's just hair! I'd definitely be cautious about cutting TOO much off on a whim, but regarding color, have fun & play around with it!!

Thanks for stopping by and GOOD LUCK!

My advice: cut it, color it, wear it with sass! BUT, don't expect your hair to "look like the picture" if it's totally a different texture, type, etc.. And get a pro do do anything drastic!
